Week 5

1. What key messages are found on the various food packages? Food packages will usually have some sort of tagline that makes it seem more appealing than it might actually be. Sometimes brands tend to over exaggerate to make a sale. A package of cookies may say "the best cookie you've ever had!" or a healthy drink will say "makes you healthier after one sip!" It may not be true, but it does make some people buy the product.  2. Do the products make any nutrition claims? Explain. There were a lot of products that claim nutritional value. There are some granola bars that focus on the 10g of fiber but try to cover up the 100g of sugar and 50g of fat.  3. Which demographics do you think are the primary targets for the products? These are probably targeted for people who want to be healthier but aren't quite sure what is healthy and what isn't. If someone isn't educated on products, they will see a sign that says "low fat!" an...

Week 4

Q1. What consumer trends does Seventh Generation respond to most effectively? The most effective trend that Seventh Generation responds to is the green movement. More and more people are trying to become more green and economically friendly. One of the most popular items people want is green household products, which  Seventh Generation dominates. They have come out with new detergents and offer products without any dyes or chemical brighteners. Products like this have created a new market and it keeps getting bigger and bigger.  Q2. Which consumer trends might it be missing? One thing they may be missing out on is a less expensive product. These green products can cost up to 4 times as much as others. For some, this may be worth it. For others who don't care as much about being green than a product being cheap, than they may lose out on some customers. It may just take time to make people believe that the higher price is worth a greener product, but until then, th...

Assignment 2

CHAPTER 3 1.   Kroger used the market basket analysis by collecting data from all the consumers and tries to use that data to better the store. This included setting up the store in specific ways and using interests to target return customers. He sent out specific coupons to each household so depending on the data so they would specifically want to go back to that store.   2. Market basket analysis is so popular because it benefits the stores and helps with sales. It stops them from buying and trying to sell items that no one is interested in. They can more accurately stock their shelves and make advertisements.   3. Using market basket analysis can be a bit tough if its not used correctly. The companies can end up spending a lot of money on this and if they don't use their results correctly, it can cost them even more. Not every purchase means something. Just because I buy milk and dish soap during the same trip doesn't mean they should be marketed or advertised...

Assignment 1: Google Trends

Image
For this assignment I used the website Google Trends. I decided to look at some of the websites I use most often. I love traveling and have been taking trips all year so I spend a lot of time on travel websites to find plane tickets, hotels, and things to do. I chose four popular travel booking sites to compare. Those were Kayak, Expedia, Trivago, and Booking.com. I thought it was very interesting to see how much more popular booking.com was than the other three sites. I personally have never used that website to book anything for a trip and I didn't know it was so popular. One trend I noticed was seasonality and that didn't surprise me one bit. Over the summer and right around the holidays are peak travel times so it makes sense that these websites get a higher volume of traffic during those times.  I also found it interesting how difference regions used the different websites. It seems for the most part, North America religiously uses Expedia and most of South Ameri...
